St. Michael the Archangel

The story of St. Michael has always intrigued me--a mighty warrior angel who fights off demons and devils. He is known to be the leader of all the other angels and the head of the angelic army of God. There have been numerous accounts of Michael protecting people from various kinds of dangerous encounters.

This song was inspired by the traditional prayer to St. Michael:

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

I wrote the song when I was seventeen for a national competition looking for songwriters to compose the prayer in way such that anyone could sing it to be used after Mass.

The feast day of St. Michael is September 29th.

I’ve attached the music here: St. Michael Prayer PDF
