About Me
I started playing piano at age eight when my oldest sister went blind, Jennifer, and was given a keyboard by a family friend. She would stay in her room playing it for hours and so naturally one day I wanted to play too. We both learned to play by ear. The first song I ever learned was "Ode to Joy". I began writing my own songs soon after.
When I was five years old, our mother had my sisters and I singing in the music ministry at my local parish. When I was fourteen, our organist passed away, and so my mom brought me over to the organ and said "This is just like a keyboard; you can play this." That’s how I was introduced to the amazing instrument the organ, which is undoubtly the master of all instruments. That’s how I got into playing the organ. I like to introduce children to the organ because it is such a fun instrument to play and because so few are becoming organists today which is why I wrote a children’s book which serves as a primer to the organ, “My Mom Makes Music at Mass”. I also have a secondary children’s book I’m working on, “Chant Saved the Day”, on the practicality and beauty of chant in the Liturgy.
When I'm not playing music or singing, I'm spending time with friends and family or I'm involved in some kind of creative project. I cannot live without one or the other. I find everything in creation an outward thought of love from the mighty Creator and strive to see inspiration in everything I do and everyone I meet to the Glory of God.
peace in your heart, mind and soul,
Rachael
